BR Class 89 - 89001 - InterCity Executive

I saw the loco in its original condition so this model was a must have for me. Unfortunately the first one had some curious decoder issues but the guys at Accurascale quickly replaced it and what a splendid model it is. The bogie detail in particular is simply stunning.

It’s just absolutely bang on

Captures the look of the prototype perfectly with incredibly detailed yet robust bogies, a fine rendition of InterCity executive livery and pristine polished effect buffers. 89001 ran smoothly straight out of the box with the great sound and lighting package rounding off a fantastic model.

I first saw 89001 at Barrow Hill back in 2007, and who would have thought we would have so many choices of livery’s in 2025 for one electric locomotive. My favourite livery is the intercity executive livery, but the current version that 89001 is in is absolutely flawless, and detail on the bogies and builders plates etc is superb, and not forgetting the turned buffers on the executive version. On the Avocet I have fitted front end detail and men in the cabs, this is slightly fiddly when you don’t have a steady hand so be careful, also remember to gently prize out the orange jumper cables on either side when taking the body off. Fantastic model well worth buying one!

Runs smoothly, particularly noticeable at slow speed. It has a good top speed too. Haulage is good. Detail is excellent. It captures the look of the prototype well.

I love this model. The detail is excellent, the sound is good and it runs smoothly.
I have a number of Accurascale models and none of them have disappointed (though I wish the chains on the first Deltic had been a bit more secure).. The InterCity Executive is another example of Accurascales; attention to detail and the working pantograph is brilliant. If these are still in stock. if asked, I'd say "Don't wait get one onto your layout".
